A maintenance facility for a city transit system is a busy place. Buses out of commission mean longer waits at bus stations and unhappy customers. This project involved remodeling the maintenance garage and constructing an addition while day to day operations continued. A sophisticated approach to execution ensured the construction would not interfere with current operations. Safety was also a major consideration. Construction workers, maintenance workers, construction equipment and transit equipment all mingling in the same space which required advanced planning and constant vigilance on the part of construction superintendents and project managers. Numerous embedded items such as hoists, lifts, vehicle scissors lifts and oil separators were installed with little or no interference with maintenance schedules. |
